Residents and organizers will convene for a rally at Lawyers Mall to demand the Maryland General Assembly ban data center development statewide. Speakers will include representatives from numerous community organizations and leaders from all over the state. This comes 100 days before the start of the next annual legislative session, and just over a week after Wes Moore announced his data center executive order, which falls short of a ban or even a moratorium.
Communities all across the state have voiced concerns that AI, hyperscale data centers, bring pollution and toxins, higher energy and water rates, environmental degradation, and other existential harms. There are also growing concerns about how Big Tech companies use AI for surveillance and develop it without regard for the risks involved. The elected officials are continuing to fall short of real solutions. The residents of Maryland demand a statewide ban on the development of data centers!
